Ingredients
1 tsp ceremonial grade matcha powder
-
1-2 tbsp GRACE Elderberry Co. elderberry syrup (adjust to taste)
2 tbsp hot water (around 160°F or 70°C, not boiling)
1 cup milk of choice (oat, almond, or soy milk work well)
Sweetener to taste (maple syrup or honey, optional, as the elderberry syrup often contains honey)
Ice (for an iced latte)
Directions
Hot Elderberry Matcha Latte
Prepare the matcha paste: In a mug or small bowl, add the matcha powder. Sift it first if it is clumpy. Add the hot water (not boiling, as this can make matcha bitter). Whisk vigorously with a bamboo whisk (chasen) or a small milk frother until the matcha is smooth and a light foam forms on top.
Add elderberry: Whisk in the elderberry syrup (and optional sweetener) until fully combined with the matcha paste.
Heat the milk: In a small saucepan, heat the milk until it is warm and starts to steam (do not let it boil). Alternatively, heat it in the microwave for 1-2 minutes.
Froth the milk: Use a milk frother to froth the warm milk until creamy and foamy.
Combine: Pour the frothed milk into the mug with the elderberry matcha mixture. Stir gently to combine everything.
Serve: Enjoy immediately.
Iced Elderberry Matcha Latte
Prepare the matcha mixture: In a glass, combine the matcha powder and hot water. Whisk until smooth and there are no clumps.
Add elderberry and milk: Stir in the elderberry syrup (and optional sweetener). Pour in your milk of choice and stir or shake well to combine.
Add ice: Fill the glass with ice cubes.
Serve: Stir once more and enjoy the refreshing drink.
